Driving Under Influence of Marijuana a Concern: New Canaan PD

Police are considering ways to better enforce laws when it comes to drivers operating under the influence of marijuana or other drugs.

New Canaan Police are concerned about proper enforcement when it comes to motorists driving under the influence of marijuana.

Police in New Canaan made 74 narcotic arrests in 2015, compared to 52 in 2014, according to the New Canaanite.

Determining if someone is under the influence of alcohol while driving is fairly straightforward, but the state hasn’t yet figured out how to prosecute those driving under the influence of marijuana, said Chief Leon Krolikowski.

New Canaan Police might add an officer trained as a drug recognition expert, who can determine if someone is under the influence of drugs while operating a vehicle.
