The New Canaan YMCA will celebrating Healthy Kids Day Friday, June 1 with fun, family activities open to the entire community.
Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative of the Y to improve the health and well-being of kids, is filled with fun, active play and educational activities that will help parents improve their kids’ lifestyles for the long term. Research shows that without access to activities that stimulate the mind and body, kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically over the summer months.
An array of family activities will be available at the Y both inside and outside, weather permitting. Activities include family group exercise classes, family swim, a mile walk, a family cooking class, arts and crafts, and Bouncing Bears (ages 6 and under). Families are also invited to join our picnic dinner and may bring their own dinner or may purchase a box dinner in advance through the Y. Additionally, families will be able to compete against each other on a giant inflatable obstacle course, sponsored by New Canaan Youth Services. Family group exercise classes will include Zumba at 5:00 PM, Family Spin at 6:00 PM, and Yoga at 7:00 PM. Family swim will be available in 30-minute sessions from 6:30 – 8:10 PM, and families may sign-up for swim sessions in advance at the Y. The New Canaan Library will also be participating in the event, encouraging summer reading among families.
