Tea lovers, history buffs and those looking for a unique experience will delight in attending the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum’s Annual Victorian Tea. On Sunday, May 5 at 2:00pm, the Victorian-era National Historic Landmark salutes the great afternoon “teatime” tradition, said to have been started by the Duchess of Bedford, one of Queen Victoria’s ladies-in-waiting.
The family-friendly event features a formal English tea in the Mansion’s Rotunda, including a wide selection of desserts, sandwiches, and the traditional scones and cream, catered by tea ceremony expert, Carol Timpanelli of the Royal Tea Company. Music will be supplied by young artist Phoebe Costello from New York City who was recently featured on PBS’ Christmas special Handel’s Messiah Rocks and was the winner of the American Idol Experience at Disney World. The Tea is chaired by Marianne Howatson, Publisher of Cottages & Gardens Publications. Event sponsors include AT&T, The Bank of New Canaan, King Industries and Bigelow Tea.
Tickets for the Tea are $35 for members and $45 non-members. Proceeds will go to support the Museum and its artistic, cultural and educational programs.
