Eversource Resumes Work On Natural Gas Project In New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, CT — Eversource will resume its natural gas project in New Canaan on Monday, April 1, and expects work to continue through April 5.

First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said Friday that he will meet with Eversource next Thursday, April 4, to review the utility company's plans for Phase 2 of the project - which will take place this summer and fall - for the expansion into downtown New Canaan.

"We will share information as soon as possible," he said.

According to Eversource, three crews from Ferreira Construction will begin construction activities on Monday to install and improve our natural gas distribution system in New Canaan.

Gas Main Installation:

-Crew 1 will be installing gas main on Main Street between Down River Road to Oak Street during the hours of 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

-Crew 2 will be installing gas main on Harrison Avenue during the hours of 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

-The hours for in-street construction activities may vary, depending on location and weather.

-Temporary paving activities will be performed in conjunction with our construction activities as needed.

-There will be no construction work performed on Saturday and Sunday.

-Traffic flow will be maintained where possible, however, drivers may experience delays due to alternating one-way traffic, as well as, occasional lane closures.

Gas Service Installation:

-Crew 3 will be installing gas services on Brooks Street, Woodland Road and Kelley Green during the hours of 7 a.m. - 5 p.m., Wednesday through Friday.

-Our construction activities include individual service line installations and we will be working directly with specific homeowners and providing appointments to complete our work.

-The hours for in-street construction activities may vary, depending on location and weather.

-Temporary paving activities will be performed in conjunction with our construction activities as needed.

-There will be no construction work performed on Saturday and Sunday.

-Traffic flow will be maintained where possible, however, drivers may experience delays due to alternating one-way traffic, as well as, occasional lane closures.

What You Can Expect:

• The hours for in-street construction work may vary, depending on location, and the construction crews will be working daytime hours.

• Access will be maintained to residences and businesses, as well as ensure priority passage of emergency vehicle traffic through construction areas.

• Construction activities may take place at multiple sites along the route until the project is completed.

• Work zones will be protected from pedestrians and vehicles.

• Police officers or flagmen will oversee traffic control.
