Whether it be for good behavior, to perform tricks or just because you love them, every dog loves receiving their dog biscuits. That is probably an understatement. A dog would do just about anything for a dog biscuit.
On February 23rd, let’s give dog biscuits for doing nothing but being our dog. February 23rd is the official National Dog Biscuit Day. It is a special day where we can do something extremely simple to help our dog feel loved and appreciated.
All dogs have James Spratt to thank for being the first to manufacture dog food and dog biscuits on a large scale. He developed Spratt’s in London in 1860 where he first launched the “Patented Meat Fibrine Dog Cake”. Changing the name to dog biscuit was probably a smart move. He focused on the concept of a dog’s life stages and certain foods for each stage.
Dog biscuits originally began as simply bad bread. A baker baked a bad batch of bread, try saying that five times fast, and he felt it was not fit for humans, so as the saying goes, he “tossed it to the dogs”. Thus, the idea of producing dogs their own type of food was born. Who would of thought that messing up bread could change the lives of dogs forever?

National Dog Biscuit Day should feel like a holiday for our dogs. They are great all year long and today is a day that they need to be rewarded. They can look forward to receiving their favorite treat all day long. Make this a day to experience how much your dog loves dog biscuits. Make it an initiative to carefully pick which type of biscuits are right for your dog, or take the time to make yours.
