Fate Of Historic New Canaan Home Still Unknown: Report

1124 Valley Road in New Canaan - next to the Grupes Reservoir - is owned by Norwalk's First District Water Department.

NEW CANAAN, CT — After rejecting a $1.2 million offer by New Canaan officials to buy the property, the future of 1124 Valley Road in New Canaan, owned by Norwalk's First District Water Department, remains uncertain, reports the New Canaan News.

One thing is certain, however, and that is that the more than 200-year-old home, which rests on four acres next to the Grupes Reservoir, will not be demolished, according to Dominick DiGangi, general manager of the water department. New Canaan has considered eminent domain to acquire the home, but have not formally moved in that direction.

Preservationists in town hope to save the historic home, and the district is considering work at the site that would improve its water treatment facility.
