Holocaust Survivor Urges St. Luke's Students to Remember
Holocaust survivor, Judith Altmann, speaks with St. Luke's 8th graders

A terrible piece of world history came to life for St. Luke’s eighth graders, as Holocaust survivor, Judith Altmann, shared her powerful story. Altmann was just 14 years old—close in age to many students present—when she was sent to a Nazi concentration camp for being Jewish.
For five years she suffered the atrocities experienced by millions during Hitler’s regime. Altman was ultimately liberated by British troops, but most of her family perished.
Altmann continues to travel the world and tell her story, especially to younger people. She told students to remember the Holocaust, because it’s the only way to prevent such horror from ever happening again.

“It is important to be kind and to speak out against bullying or unfairness around you” said Altmann. “These little efforts help injustices from escalating into something bigger.”
Judith Altmann is living proof—of unthinkable war crimes, but also of our ability to prevail and contribute good to the world.
