Man With 300+ Xanax Pills Busted In New Canaan: Cops

The incident allegedly began after the suspect took a vehicle from someone without their permission, according to New Canaan police.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 19-year-old Pound Ridge, NY man was arrested by New Canaan police on Aug. 21 after he allegedly took a vehicle without the owner's permission, and was subsequently caught with 303 Xanax pills in his possession, according to authorities.

Zachary A. Kaplan, of Dann Farm Road, was charged with sale of a controlled substance, sale of a hallucinogen narcotic, use and possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance. He was not charged in connection with the vehicle he allegedly took because the owner did not want to pursue the case, police said.

The incident began when police were notified at about 8:45 p.m. about the vehicle allegedly being taken by Kaplan, and New Canaan officers soon found him parked in the lot of a Walgreens on Pine Street.

"Upon approaching the vehicle, officers observed Kaplan (the sole occupant) in the driver's seat of the vehicle, a strong odor of marijuana was emitting from within the vehicle," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. "A subsequent investigation resulted in the discovery of the following items inside of the vehicle: marijuana, a metal grinder with marijuana residue, rolling papers, $1,420.00 in cash, a glass jar containing 303 Xanax 2mg pills, packages of various cigars, and 2 boxes of zip lock bags. Kaplan indicated that all of the listed items belonged to him."

He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 22. Subsequent court dates were not known.
