Latest Updates On Powerful Nor'easter Expected To Impact Connecticut

The National Weather Service has already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for much of Connecticut. Here's the latest on what to expect.

A powerful nor’easter is expected to begin to impact Connecticut on Sunday and could continue through a good portion of Tuesday, bringing dangerous wind gusts, periods of heavy rain and the potential for some coastal flooding too.

Some areas inland and especially in Hartford and Tolland counties may see periods of sleet and snow too, though this largely looks to be a rain-and-wind event for Connecticut.

The National Weather Service has already issued a “Hazardous Weather Outlook” for all of southern Connecticut. Hartford and Tolland counties have not had any advisories issued as of yet, but they’ll see plenty of rain, wind and some mixed precipitation.

The National Weather Service in its Hazardous Weather Outlook for southern Connecticut states that “strong easterly winds are likely from late Sunday night into Monday night and possibly Tuesday morning ... as an intensifying storm moves up the coast.”

Specifically at the coast, the weather service says locally moderate coastal flooding may also be possible during the Monday and Tuesday morning high tide cycles.

NBC Connecticut Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan wrote Friday on his Facebook page that, “One thing we'll have to watch for Monday (and) Tuesday is the potential for strong winds. This sounding off the GFS computer model for New Haven shows winds of hurricane force just 2 or 3,000 feet up. While most of that will stay bottled up above our heads we could see 50-60 mph winds make it down to the ground.”

Hanrahan went on to write that “overnight computer models have trended a bit warmer with the Monday/Tuesday storm. We're still looking at rain and sleet and the hills could still see at least some snow. The Euro Ensembles have about a 50% chance of more than 3" of snow for northern Litchfield County with very low odds elsewhere.”
