Lawyer: Town Legally Has Access to New Canaan BOE Financial Records

Outside counsel for the BOE confirmed that the town has access to BOE records.

Lawyer Thomas Mooney who serves as outside counsel for New Canaan Board of Education confirmed that the town legally has access to Board of Education financial records.

A town finance director or any other person can look at the records, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

Th only exemption for financial records would be something that directly identifies names of students, such as expenses for special education students. In that case a BOE official would have to redact the name and other identity information.

The issue came up at a recent Town Audit Committee meeting. Superintendent Bryan Luizzi said that the town did have access.
