Legal Sports Betting Possibly Coming To CT
Gov. Dannel Malloy is considering calling the legislature back into session to debate the measure.

HARTFORD, CT — Gov. Dannel Malloy announced he is considering calling the legislature into a special session in order to take advantage of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision on sports betting.
The Supreme Court overturned the 1992 Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act.
"As of today, I am prepared to call the General Assembly into special session to consider legalizing sports betting in Connecticut," Malloy said. "It is incumbent on us to consider the question of legalized sports betting in a thoughtful way that ensures our approach is responsible, smart, and fully realizes the economic potential that this opportunity provides.”

The court's decision came on a challenge out of New Jersey. Most states are banned from sports betting. Congress could choose to regulate sports gambling directly under the decision, but if not that duty would fall to individual states.
New Jersey voters approved a change to legalize sports betting at the states popular gambling destinations including Atlantic City.
