Longtime New Canaan Police Lieutenant Retires After 35 Years

NEW CANAAN, CT — Police Lt. Carol Ogrinc, one of the first women ever hired by New Canaan police, retired Friday after 35 years with the department.

In a Facebook post announcing her retirement, police said Ogrinc began her career with the department on March 28, 1988, as a patrol officer.

She held a number of positions throughout her career, including public information officer, investigations, communications training officer, E911 manager and field training officer, as well as an accreditations assignment.

Ogrinc was promoted to sergeant in 2004 and lieutenant in 2015, both of which made her the department's first female sergeant and lieutenant respectively.

During her 35 years of service, she earned a Meritorious Duty Award, Unit Citation Award and Physical Fitness Award.

"We wish you all the happiness and fulfillment in your retirement," police said on Facebook. "May this new chapter be filled with cherished memories, time spent with loved ones and new adventures. Congratulations and happy retirement!"
