Merritt Village Developer Resists Suggestions to Scale Back Project

Planning and Zoning members suggested the commission and developers work out a compromise.

NEW CANAAN, CT—Planning and Zoning members suggested the possibility of scaling back the 120-unit Merritt Village proposal after some concerns were shared by community members, but the developer resisted the suggestion.

Three members suggested that the project be scaled back in various ways such as reducing the number of units or building height, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.

Developer Arnold Karp gave no indication he'd be willing to compromise and that the high cost of land in town coupled with elevator-access and underground parking necessitated the project density in order to make profit objectives.
