Milano Returns, Leads New Canaan To 49-13 Rout of Trumbull

The senior quarterback tosses three TD passes as Rams rebound from last week's loss to Stamford to improve to 8-1

What headache?

Senior quarterback Matt Milano returned to the lineup Friday and led the New Canaan football team to a 49-13 victory over Trumbull.

Milano was knocked out of last week's 36-29 loss to Stamford in the first quarter with a migrane headache, but looked none the worse for wear Friday, throwing three touchdown passes and rushing for another score.

The Rams improved to 8-1, setting up their showdown with Darien on Thanksgiving when a berth in the Class L state playoffs will be on the line.

Milano, who only played a half Friday, passed for 181 yards before heading to the bench with the contest not in doubt after the intermission.

Milano took matters into his own hands early, tossing an 18-yard pass to Peter Kraus and scoring on a 2-yard run to make it 14-0 after the first quarter.

In the second period, the Rams exploded for 28 points to build a 42-0 cushion at halftime.

Milano started the eruption with a 5-yard TD strike to Duke Repko and finished it with a 9-yard TD pass to Nick Cascione. In between, Cascione scored on a 55-yard run and Louis Hagopian plowed in from 2 yards.

In the third quarter sophomore Ted Bossidy, who played well in relief last week, took over and ran in from 13 yards for a 49-0 lead.

Trumbull (2-6) got a pair of meaningless scores in the fourth quarter on Nick Roberts'  5-yard TD pass to J.J. Smart and Mike Williams' 30-yard intermission return.

The Eagles have dropped six straight following a 2-0 start.
