Mitch Murphy Awarded St. Luke's Edward B. Blakely Distinguished Faculty Award
St. Luke's School Gives Faculty Award at State of the School Presentation

St. Luke’s School honored one of its finest teachers during this year’s State of the School Celebration held on October 9. History teacher Mitch Murphy, a member of the St. Luke’s faculty for 23 years, received the Edward B. Blakely Distinguished Faculty Award—named for the founder and first headmaster of the school.
This award goes to a faculty member who lives out the St. Luke’s mission through her or his work ethic, relationships with students, and dedication to teaching and learning, and who exemplifies Edward Blakely’s founding values of excellence and character.
While presenting the award, Head of School Mark Davis said: “Ask any teacher to name the colleagues who represent the soul and ethic of the faculty, and they’ll always include Mitch. Ask St. Luke’s graduates from the last 15-20 years which teachers influenced them most, and Mr. Murphy always makes their list.”

In addition to teaching History, Murphy is an Upper School advisor as well as Varsity Golf Coach. “Few teachers can do what he does,” added Davis. “Through passion for his subject, respect for his students, and the force of his example, he gets the most out of his students who respect him so much that they reach deep down to give him their very best.”
Several students and faculty members also lauded Murphy: “An inspiring educator.” ... “The best friend one could have.” ... “The glue of the department, if not the faculty.” ... “A straight shooter.” ... “Made me give my best and made learning fun, even though history was not my favorite subject.” ... “A great, quiet leader who leads by example.”
