Natural Gas Expansion Not Coming to New Canaan

The town is moving ahead with plans to use propane tanks and dual fuel systems instead.

NEW CANAAN, CT A dual fuel system will allow New Canaan schools to use either propane or oil for heating in an effort to save money based on market costs.

A plan under the system's current heating oil supplier would bury propane tanks and use existing infrastructure to both propane and oil, according to the New Canaanite. Tanks could be installed as early as September at many schools.

The bad news is that there won't be natural gas line expansion into New Canaan.

For several years the town has tried to work with Eversource to expand natural gas to downtown New Canaan, but plans never materialized.
