NCHS Crew Collects More Gold at Recent Regattas
Team Continues to Shine on Spring Regatta Circuit

The threat of snow in Saratoga Springs did not deter the New Canaan High School crew team from a strong performance at the Saratoga Invitational regatta recently.

Gold medals were earned by team members Claire Campbell, David Orner, Colt DeWolf, Andrew Langalis, Aidan Bridwell, Cole Dorsey, Liam Galloway, Lauren Bell, Riley Mushkin, Siobhan Naughton, Tate Aronstein, Riley Marsh, David Dayya, Daniel Cone, John Norton, Edward Koeckert, Mauricio Litvak, Phillip MacNeal and Luca Furst.
The team walked away with several silver medals as well. Teammates Jack Reed, Liam Galloway, Rachel Smith, Meg Adams, Skylar Severance, Katherine Adams, Alexander Williams, Michael Dayya, Harrison Mount, William Grotto, Maggie Owen, Gabriela Kulesz, Caroline Murphy, Claire Campbell, Caroline Challe, Patrick Curley, Grant Hanauer, Dimitri Nuzhny, Reese Gregory, Cary O’Brien, Ryan Sill, James Hilton and Kevin Fanning captured second place in their respective events.

Rounding out the medals, bronze finishes were racked up by Hannah Gelnaw, Kimmie Dyrvik, Meg and Katherine Adams, Claire Hall-Tipping, Josh Klapper, Robert Sillo, Jack Reed, Brandon Golino, Tanner Polo, Ethan Geller, Luca Furst and Phillip MacNeal.
LONG ISLAND JUNIOR ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS
The New Canaan novice crew led the charge on Long Island for the Junior Rowing Championships. In the women’s events, Skylar Severance, Rachel Smith, Sarah Bazata and Lexy Smicka took home the gold medal while Livia Scura, Uma Basu, Casey Martin, Maddy Culpepper, Mariana Siebold, Fiona Taney, Mary Cate Carlo, Erin Corbett and Anne Johnston snagged a bronze medal.
The men were successful as well, with Tim Cone, Ethan Marsh, Andrew Orner and Dmitri Nuzhny capturing the gold.
About New Canaan High School Crew: New Canaan crew was organized in 1997. The program is run under the guidance of Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk and has expanded from thirteen rowers to over 110 from New Canaan High School, Darien High School, King School in Stamford, Joel Barlow School in Redding and several other schools in the area and as far away as New Haven. Rowers from the program compete regionally, nationally and internationally on the U.S. Junior National Team and have been medal winners on at all levels. The team has garnered multiple national championships over the last four years as well as countless regional and state championships.
About Maritime Rowing Club: Maritime Rowing Club is home to the New Canaan High School crew team. The organization is dedicated to competitive and recreational rowing for all ages and abilities. Based on the scenic Norwalk River, rowing both sweep and sculling shells, Maritime is a team-oriented rowing club where all members work together to provide an enjoyable rowing experience for all. Since 1996, Maritime Rowing Club has offered rowing classes for all ages and skill levels from Middle School to Learn-to-Row to Masters competitive racing.
