New Board President and Faculty Awards at New Canaan Country School

More than 350 members of the Country School community joined together for this year’s Annual Meeting and Dinner with the theme of “Building Community” on Sept. 17. Watch the video of Interim Head of School Peter O’Neill’s remarks.

In addition to the traditional board business, outgoing Board President John Teitler was honored for his three years as president and seven years of service to the board. Watch the video of Mr. Teitler’s remarks. Steve Rodgers of New Canaan was elected the next president of the board.

In addition, four endowed Faculty Awards were presented. Watch the video of the Faculty Award presentations. The Holmes Family Faculty Chair was awarded to Kathy Kravec, chair of the Creative Arts department and Director of the Afterschool Program.

The Laverack Family Faculty Chair was awarded to Upper School teacher Liz Pepe, former Chair of the Languages Department.

The Wiliams Family Faculty Chair was awarded to Lower School teacher Kristin Quisgard, who is in her 22nd year as a fourth-grade teacher.

A new faculty award, The Shirley and Jonathan O’Herron Faculty Award was presented to recently retired Business Manager John Ziac who served Country School for 42 years. This award was established in November 2013 through a bequest from the estate of Jonathan O’Herron, who was the proud grandfather of 11 Country School students.

Several faculty members were also recognized for significant service to the school, including those with more than 30 years of service: Sue Friborg, Bruce Lemoine, Tom Giggi, Dave Stoller and Mark Macrides.
