You may be thinking about how many more days you can go to the beach, but the first day of school is just around the corner. With that in mind, here are important dates for the 2016-2017 school year in the New Canaan Public School system.

First day of school: Sept. 1

Labor day: Sept. 5 (no school)

Rosh Hashanah: Oct. 3 (no school)

Yom Kippur: Oct. 12 (no school)

Election Day: Nov. 8 (no school for students)

Nov 23: Half day for Thanksgiving recess

Nov. 24-27: Thanksgiving (no school)

Dec. 23: Half day for holiday vacation

Dec. 24-Jan. 2: Holiday vacation

Jan. 16: Martin Luther King Jr. Day (no school)

Feb. 17: Professional learning day (no school for students)

Feb. 18-26: February vacation

April 8-16: April vacation

May 29: Memorial day (no school)

June 16: Last day of school without cancellations (half-day)
