New Canaan 2021 Election Results: Board Of Ed Winners Announced
Only a handful of races were contested in New Canaan this year, chief among them the race for the Board of Education.

NEW CANAAN, CT — All three Republican candidates and two Democratic candidates secured spots on the New Canaan Board of Education during an election that saw most local races go uncontested.
According to unofficial vote totals released early Wednesday morning by the town, Democrats Penny Rashin and Erica Schwedel received 3,541 and 3,437 votes respectively.
Republican Dan Bennett received the most votes of the Board of Education candidates with 3,601, while Julie Toal and Phil Hogan received 3,589 and 3,550 total votes respectively.

Additionally, in the race to fill a vacancy on the board of education for two years, Republican Hugo Alves received 3,613 votes while Democrat Karen Willett received 3,091 votes, according to the numbers released by the town.

Republican incumbent First Selectman Kevin Moynihan ran unopposed, as did the two incumbent selectmen, Democrat Kathleen Corbet and Republican Nick Williams. Likewise, Claudia Weber and Andrew Brooks ran unopposed for town clerk and treasurer, respectively.
For the board of assessment appeals, the candidates are Democrat Barbara Shaw and Republicans Kevin McIntosh and Pavla Levin.
The Democratic candidates for town council are Hilary Ormond and Rita Bettino. The Republican candidates are Kimberly Norton, Luke Kaufman, Tom Butterworth and Penelope Young.
For constables, the candidates are Susan Edmands, Edward Vollmer, Nick Mitrakis, Jordan Cerbone, Mary Anne Mercogliano, Greg Pepe, Jill Guzzetti and Arvind Bajaj.
