New Canaan 7th Grade Girls Win Sixth Consecutive Game
New Canaan 7th grade girls basketball won its sixth game in a row in a hard-fought victory over Stamford.

The New Canaan 7th grade girls team continued their winning ways Friday night with a hard-fought 36-33 victory on the road against Stamford.
Shooting guard Katie Dunn came out on fire, quickly scoring 8 points, including an impressive crossover that left her defender grasping at air. Forward Natalie Lopez played her usual suffocating defense as the team jumped out to a 16-7 lead against a shocked Stamford squad.
Sarah Crawford took over in the second quarter, scoring two quick baskets to push the lead to 22-13. However, the Stamford team weathered the storm and made a charge to cut the lead to 22-18 early in the third quarter.

With the intensity in the building mounting, a great dish from Lopez to Center Elizabeth DeMarino helped settle the New Canaan team. Jane Charlton, led the team with 19 points and took over from there as her back-to-back steals and layups pushed the lead back to 29-19.
Stamford showed no quit after going on a 6-0 run, cutting the lead to 29-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

A quick time out by Coach Rodney helped focus the New Canaan girls as great team defense and tough rebounding by Ellie Anderson kept Stamford at bay.
Guards Michelle LaBadie and Riana Afshar were able to break Stamford’s press defense as the game wound down and the New Canaan fans could be heard exhaling from the stands as Stamford’s three-point shot to tie went wide at the buzzer.
