New Canaan 8th Grade Boys Team Wins 2, Loses 1 Recent Game

The hoopsters trounced Darien and Stamford JCC, but fell to Fairfield in recent games.

New Canaan boys’ eighth grade red team won two out of three games this weekend with victories over Darien and Stamford JCC and a hard fought loss to Fairfield.

New Canaan 41, Darien 23

The New Canaan eighth grade boys red team rolled over rival Darien YMCA White to victory. From the start, New Canaan proved too much for Darien and led 25-10 at the half.

Both Darien and New Canaan struggled in the third quarter, each only scoring 3 points. In the fourth quarter both teams gained momentum, but New Canaan outscored Darien 13 points to their 10 to win 41-23..

John Peiser put 10 points on the board, with Augo Frey (6 points), Nico Savini (5 points) and Wyatt Wilson (5 points) also contributing key baskets.

The New Canaan offense and defense dominated the boards with over 30 rebounds led by the John Peiser, Angel Negron, Augo Frey, and Conor West. Also scoring for New Canaan were Oliver Crookenden (4), Will Rechterman (3), CJ D’Virgilio (2), Clark Grigsby (2) , Angel Negron (2), and Conor West (2).

New Canaan 62, Stamford JCC 34

Although Stamford JCC White led New Canaan 12-11 in the first period, New Canaan turned on the heat to defeat Stamford JCC. The New Canaan boys’ showed excellent teamwork and pulled ahead at the half 33-21.

The victory was a team effort with Crookenden sinking 11 points from the field and Rechterman contributing 9 points by hitting three 3-point shots.

Guards Savini (6), Grigsby (4) and Wilson (2) also scored through jump shots. The forwards and center were aggressive on the boards with Peiser (10 points ), Frey (8 points), and West (7 points) adding points through rebounded shots and lay-ups.

Negron was tenacious against the Stamford JCC with five steals and 5 points. The New Canaan boys pulled down over 40 rebounds in all, with D’Virgilio contributing ten rebounds and four assists to help clinch the victory.

Fairfield 52, New Canaan 35

New Canaan fought hard but couldn’t overcome Fairfield’s full court pressure. New Canaan led at the half 19-17, but Fairfield’s aggressive offense and defense in the second half proved too much with many turnovers.

Savini led in scoring sinking 11 points, with Peiser contributing 8 points and 12 rebounds. Crookenden (4), D’Virgilio(4), Wilson(4), Frey, (2) and Rechterman (2) also scored against Fairfield.
