New Canaan-Based Bank Plans New Branch In Darien: Report

The bank is eying the former Panera Bread site, which closed at the end of 2016.

DARIEN, CT — A new tenant reportedly has applied to move into the former Panera Bread location in Darien, which closed at the end of last year.

New Canaan-based Bankwell Financial Group, which has branches in New Canaan, Stamford, Norwalk, Fairfield and other Connecticut locations, recently applied to the state Department of Banking to open a branch at the 1063 Boston Post Road site, writes the Darien News.

A fitness facility called Club Pilates is set to move into the other side of the building in the near future.
