New Canaan Board Of Finance OK's Millions For Town Projects

NEW CANAAN, CT — New sidewalks, a heating system for Waveny House and several school building projects were among the initiatives unanimously approved for funding this week by the New Canaan Board of Finance, according to draft minutes from the board's May 9 meeting.

Combined, all of the following New Canaan projects will total $2,276,437. Below are descriptions of the projects, as presented to the finance group by board Chair John Sheffield:

Sidewalk, Drainage and Pavement 2017 Project - Various sidewalk, drainage
and pavement projects, including: (a) the extension of Waveny Park Trail(s) in
the amount of $50,000, (b) pavement preservation, including crack sealing,
localized repairs and manhole and catch basin adjustments in the amount of
$250,000, (c) installation of sidewalks and extension, repair or reconstruction
of existing sidewalks, including provision for handicap access ramps and
Americans With Disabilities (ADA) compliance upgrades in the amount
of $300,000, and (d) drainage projects in the amount of $50,000, all located in the
Town, and all related appurtenances and facilities necessary for the above, including, but not
limited to, drainage systems, curbing, lighting and other utilities, signs, pavement
markings, traffic calming measures and improvements, repairs to public and
private driveways affected by the above, and topsoil and seeding of disturbed
areas, and planning, design, acquisition and construction costs, equipment,
materials, site improvements, architects’ fees, engineering fees, insurance, project
management fees, and other fees related to such projects, and for interest on
borrowings and other financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing
and legal and costs of issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Total estimated cost
is $650,000.

Waveny House Heating System 2017 Project - Acquisition and installation of a
boiler and replacement or repair of oil tank for the Waveny House located in the
Town, including planning, design, acquisition and installation costs, equipment,
materials, abatement, site improvements, architects’ fees, engineering fees,
insurance, and other fees related to such project, and for interest on borrowings
and other financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing and legal and
costs of issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated cost is $100,000.
Overhead Doors 2017 Project - Acquisition and installation of overhead doors
for the transfer station garage and for the highway department garage located in
the Town, including planning, design, acquisition and installation costs, equipment,
materials, site improvements, architects’ fees, engineering fees, insurance, and
other fees related to such project, and for interest on borrowings and other
financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing and legal and costs of
issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated cost is $75,000.

New Canaan Day Care Heating System 2017 Project - Replacement or
restoration of the heating system for New Canaan Day Care located in the Town,
including planning, design, acquisition and installation costs, equipment, materials,
abatement, site improvements, architects’ fees, engineering fees, insurance, and
other fees related to such project, and for interest on borrowings and other
financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing and legal and costs of
issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated cost is $70,000.

Rolling Stock 2017 Project - Acquisition of rolling stock, including (a) a hook lift
truck with additional bodies, attachments and accessories for the Department of
Public Works of the Town in the amount of $125,000, (b) a loader and
accessories for the department of public works of the Town in the amount of
$150,000, and (c) a loader and accessories for the transfer station located in the
Town in the amount of $200,000, including fees to such acquisitions, and for
interest on borrowings and other financing costs, and for administrative, printing,
financing and legal and costs of issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated
cost is $475,000.

Playgrounds 2017 Project - Playground equipment at Saxe Middle School, and
(b) playground restoration at various schools in the Town, including planning,
design, acquisition and construction costs, equipment, materials, site
improvements, and other fees related to such projects, and for interest on
borrowings and other financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing
and legal and costs of issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated cost is
$300,000.

Bus Building Emergency Power 2017 Project - Acquisition of materials and
installation of same in order to provide for emergency power to the Bus Building
located in the Town, including planning, design, acquisition and installation costs,
equipment, materials, and other fees related to such project, and for interest on
borrowings and other financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing
and legal and costs of issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated cost is
$15,000.

School Buildings 2017 Project - Maintenance, repair, replacement and/or
renovation projects at schools located in the Town, as set forth in the chart below,
including planning, design, acquisition and installation costs, equipment, materials,
abatement, site improvements, architects’ fees, engineering fees, insurance, and
other fees related to such projects, and for interest on borrowings and other
financing costs, and for administrative, printing, financing and legal and costs of
issuance related thereto (the “Project”). Estimated cost is $691,437.
