New Canaan Cop Credited with Saving Life
Officer Shane Gibson was off-duty, but jumped into action to save a person who was choking.

New Canaan Officer Shane Gibson is being credited with saving a choking victim’s life.
Police recieved multiple 911 calls around 1:35 p.m. on May 19 that a person was choking at Sushi 25 at 25 Elm Street, said Chief Leon Krolikowski.

Gibson was off duty working an extra duty job on the street and ran to the scene.
He performed the Heimlich maneuver and helped save the victim’s life, Krolikowski said.

The victim is expected to full recover.
“We are all very proud of Officer Gibson and grateful for the positive outcome of this incident,” Krolikowski said. “Officer Gibson will be given the Medical Service Award at an upcoming ceremony and will be nominated for the Red Cross Hero’s Award.”
