'Severely Burned' Motorist Saved By NCPD Sergeant, Officer
The two risked their lives Thursday morning to save the driver from a crash on Rosebrook Road in New Canaan.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Two members of the New Canaan Police Department saved the life of a severely burned motorist who was involved in a crash on Rosebrook Road on Thursday, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski announced.
After the officers saved the motorist, whose identity was not disclosed, the person received advanced care from the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NCVAC), and was transported to a nearby hospital. The individual's current condition is not known.
The crash occurred at about 9 a.m. on Thursday, and upon arrival, Sgt. Peter Condos and Officer Tom Patten found a vehicle off the road, fully engulfed in flames.

The two ran down an embankment to the burning vehicle, where they found the motorist — who was on fire — near the fully engulfed vehicle.
"Despite the risk of the vehicle exploding, these officers put themselves in harm’s way to save the severely burned motorist," Krolikowski said in a statement. "These officers put snow on the burning motorist and used their bare hands to put out the flames on the motorist’s body, and then urgently provided emergency medical care. One officer received minor injuries as a direct result of these lifesaving efforts."

Both Condos and Patten, who "put themselves in harm’s way, and provided lifesaving care," will soon receive the department’s Lifesaving Award, according to the Chief.
"Thanks to their bravery, training, professionalism and expert care they saved a life," Krolikowski said. "We are proud of how these officers embody our mission which is 'To Protect and serve the community with courage, professionalism and integrity.'"
Krolikowski also gave special thanks to NCVAC "for being such a critical partner as we work side-by-side to handle hundreds of medical calls and medical emergencies.
"Especially during the holiday season there is no greater reward than saving a life."
