New Canaan Coronavirus Update: Town Considers Additional Testing

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in New Canaan reached 106 on Thursday, according to officials.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus (COVID-19) reached 106 in New Canaan as of Thursday, announced Mike Handler, director of Emergency Management. Eleven residents have died of complications from the virus as of Thursday, no change from the day before.

"We have been able to reduce the turn-around time for COVID-19 test results and are interested in conducting our fourth New Canaan Drive-Thru test site," Handler said in a statement. "If you are

New Canaan was among the early communities in the area to offer drive-thru testing, which it conducted in the parking lot at Saxe Middle School.

Connecticut approached 10,000 COVID-19 cases on Thursday with 9,784, and the number of deaths statewide reached 380, according to Gov. Ned Lamont. (Don't miss local and statewide news about coronavirus developments and precautions. Sign up for Patch alerts and daily newsletters.)

Earlier in the day, Lamont announced that schools and non-essential businesses, such as restaurants, will remain closed in the state until at least May 20.

"As a reminder, our local restaurants remain open for curbside and delivery only and we strongly encourage you to take advantage of this service," Handler said.
