New Canaan Country School's Deal Days Tag Sale Brings Community Together
Donated items sold to raise funds for financial aid; unsold items donated to local charities
New Canaan Country School hosted one of its most cherished traditions on Saturday, April 25, the Deal Days tag sale. This tag sale welcomed families from all over Fairfield County to the Country School campus to shop for items ranging from clothing and kitchen appliances, to kayaks and sofas. Once the sale was over, Country School donated all of the unsold items to local charities.
The goal of this event is to strengthen the community by helping others in need while raising funds for Country School’s financial aid program. Many wonderful stories emerged from this year’s event. Through this tag sale, a couple recovering from a household flood was able to purchase furniture to help them move forward again, and a single father of five purchased a dining room table and chairs so his family could sit together at mealtime. That same father was at the tag sale because he was helping others in need by picking up unsold items for a local charity, Quest for Peace.
Kerry Dowd from Quest for Peace shared that the day after the sale, she distributed furniture, clothing and toys to seven families in Bridgeport and provided items to other families including one family split between Connecticut and Somalia.
