New Canaan Democrats Announce First Selectman, Town Council Candidates
New Canaan Democrats will back longtime Board of Finance member Amy Murphy Carroll in the race for first selectman this fall.
NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Democrats will back longtime Board of Finance member Amy Murphy Carroll in the race for first selectman this fall.
Murphy Carroll was among the nominations announced following the DTC Caucus held Tuesday night at Town Hall. The Republican Caucus will be held July 25, candidates for which include First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.
A resident of New Canaan for nearly three decades, Murphy Carroll has served on the Board of Finance since 2014 in addition to being an active community volunteer and serving on a number of town committees.

"I've lived in New Canaan with my family for 27 years, and I still look around and think about how lucky I am to be part of this fabulous town," Murphy Carroll said in a statement sent to Patch. "I truly believe the soul of our town is the people who volunteer their time, provide their expertise, and donate their resources to make our town better."
Though her work in town has been extensive, Murphy Carroll emphasized she does not consider herself a politician.

"In the nearly 10 years I've served on the New Canaan Board of Finance, I've stayed out of the news, worked with people of all political affiliations and made many great friendships along the way," Murphy Carroll said. "We are one New Canaan and we work better together. Sadly, the noise and divisiveness that has permeated our national politics is seeping into our town, shutting out too many New Canaanites and creating a culture of distrust in our government."
In addition to her work in New Canaan, Murphy Carroll worked for over 30 years on Wall Street specializing in municipal finance, according to her campaign website.
"As a municipal finance expert with more than 30 years spent working on Wall Street," Murphy Carroll said, "I'm running for first selectman to contribute my experience, restore transparency and prioritize civility in our town government."
Other Democratic candidates announced this week include Lauren Connolly Nussbaum, Josh Kaye and incumbent Brendan Hayes for the Board of Education, Janet Leung Fonss and Jennifer Zonis for Town Council and John Matz for the Board of Assessment Appeals.
Election Day is scheduled for Nov. 7. More information about each candidate is available here.
