Fire Marshal Paul Payne is currently accepting appointments to conduct complimentary fire safety assessments at New Canaan homes.
NEW CANAAN, CT — Fire Marshal Paul Payne is currently accepting appointments to conduct complimentary fire safety assessments at New Canaan homes, town officials announced this week.
According to a news release provided by the New Canaan Fire Department, this community risk reduction program for residences is part of the department's longstanding and continuous commitment to fire prevention.
Fire officials noted safety reviews at New Canaan homes include, but are not limited to:

- Escape plans.
- Smoke and carbon monoxide detector locations.
- Placement and use of fire extinguishers.
- Advice on electrical outlets, cords and power strips.
- Information related to mechanical equipment such as heating systems and clothes dryers.
The fire marshal will also check the homes room-by-room from attic to basement, garage, exterior and outbuildings as well, according to the release.
The reviews take approximately one to two hours and are equally helpful for long-time residents, those who have changed residences, families with new additions and/or elderly in residents and first-time homeowners, according to the release.
