By Wilson Warren.

On a crisp autumn Sunday in New Canaan, the New Canaan Girls U-10 Black Team defeated Fairfield White 6-0. The win improved the Girls U-10 Black Team regular season record to 4-1, with the sole defeat coming in Week 1 against Westport. The Black Team has improved week after week and Coach Ryan Fairhurst has the girls sharing the ball and playing together.

Cassie Warren began the scoring against Fairfield with a breakaway goal that she lifted over the charging goalkeeper’s outstretched arms. Next, Tessa Cosco found the back of the net after a great crossing pass. The half finished with Katherine O’ Connell shredding the Fairfield defense for her second goal of the game to bring the score to 4-0. The New Canaan defense was outstanding, led by Peyton Zaletsky, Annabel Fenwick and Emily Tedford.

The second half proved more competitive as Fairfield pushed the ball into the New Canaan zone. Katherine O’Connell provided fine goalie play turning back all attempts. Ella Imbruce, Isabelle Schuh and Grace Crookenden anchored the defense. The midfield was controlled by New Canaan as Stella Nolan, Caroline Langford and Laurel Zaffino each contributed great passing and hustle. New Canaan’s final two goals came from Kelly Marchiony and Emily Tedford who each scored from outside the penalty box.

The Rams next face Fairfield Red on Sunday, October 19th in a game between the division leaders - a good test for the U-10 Girls Black Team.
