On a steamy September Sunday in Stamford, the New Canaan Girls U-10 Black Team defeated Stamford 7-1 in a great team effort. Stamford began the scoring in the games’ first minute but the Rams quickly responded and never looked back. Katherine O’Connell began the Rams scoring with an outstanding break away goal. The New Canaan girls kept the ball in the Stamford half of the field with proper spacing and crisp passing. The Stamford keeper was solid turning away countless New Canaan shots before Lucia Crovatto and Ella Imbruce were able to find the back of the net for successive goals. Tessa Cosco added a fourth goal just before the halftime whistle.

New Canaan dominated the action in the second half as well with spirited play in the midfield from Annabel Fenwick, Laurel Zaffino, Cassie Warren and Caroline Langford. Isabelle Schuh assisted on goals by Stella Nolan and a second goal of the day by Tessa Cosco. Katherine O’Connell completed the New Canaan scoring with a final breakaway goal for the 7-1 victory. Coach Ryan Fairhurst was pleased with the team’s shape and smart passing – points of emphasis all year.
