New Canaan High School Crew has Strong Start in Fall Season
Coached by Maritime Rowing Club of Norwalk, the New Canaan High School crew team continues to dominate the fall regatta circuit at multiple events.

The Head of the Riverfront regatta on the Connecticut River in Hartford, first conducted in 1998, showcases a competition among high school, collegiate and masters rowers. The regatta hosts rowers from over six states.
New Canaan High School sophomore Claire Campbell captured first place in the Women’s Junior Single Final while Meg Adams placed third in the Women’s Novice Junior Single event.

The Women’s Junior Quad event was won by Lauren Bell, Claire Campbell, Gaby Kulesz and Caroline Murphy. Philip Bogdanov, David Orner, Paul Gelhaus and Andrew Langalis claimed the Men’s Junior Quad event.
Jenna Froland placed second in the Women’s Junior Double race.
The Men’s Junior Novice 8 team of Caroline Challe , Dmitri Nuzhny, Tim Cone, Ethan Marsh, Michael Dayya, Andrew Orner , Ian Davies, Harrison Mount, and Edward Koeckert placed second.
HEAD OF THE HOUSATONIC
Indian Wells State Park in Shelton was the site of the annual Head of the Housatonic regatta. Claire Campbell won the Women’s Junior Single event. Paul Gelhaus, Andrew Langalis , Aidan Bridwell and Riley Marsh captured first place in the Men’s Junior Quad event while Matt Huggin, Dan Cone, Griffin Daniel and John Norton walked away with second place. The Junior Women’s Quad team racked up a second place finish as well, comprised of Riley Mushkin, Gaby Kulesz, Maggie Owens, and Caroline Murphy.
The Men’s Junior Novice 8 team of Caroline Challe, Dmitri Nuzhny, Tim Cone, Ethan Marsh, Michael Dayya, Andrew Orner, Ian Davies, Harrison Mount, and Edward Koeckert placed second overall again.
Coxswain Claire Hall-Tipping led the charge with teammates Ethan Geller, Brandon Golino, Mauri Litvak, Josh Klapper, Jack Reed, Connor DeMayo, Griffin Hall and Luke Brand in the 8+ Junior 2V Men’s event, scoring a third place finish.
HEAD OF QUINOBEQUIN ON THE CHARLES RIVER IN BOSTON
New Canaan crew queued up with over 100 other rowers for the second annual Head of the Quinobequin race --- a three-kilometer youth sculling race on the Charles River.
The day yielded yet another first place finish for rower Claire Campbell in the U17 Singles event with teammate Lauren Bell culling second place in the U19 category. New Canaan Crew claimed 4 out of the top 5 places in the Men’s U17 Singles Event with David Orner taking first, Philip Bogdanov third and Riley Marsh in fourth.
About New Canaan High School Crew: New Canaan crew was organized in 1997. The program is run under the guidance of Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk and has expanded from thirteen rowers to over 110 from 14 schools and 16 towns including New Canaan High School, Darien High School, King School in Stamford, Joel Barlow School in Redding and several other schools in the area and as far away as New Haven. Rowers from the program compete regionally, nationally and internationally on the U.S. Junior National Team and have been medal winners on at all levels. The team has garnered multiple national championships over the last four years as well as countless regional and state championships.
About Maritime Rowing Club: Maritime Rowing Club is home to the New Canaan High School crew team. The organization is dedicated to competitive and recreational rowing for all ages and abilities. Based on the scenic Norwalk River, rowing both sweep and sculling shells, Maritime is a team-oriented rowing club where all members work together to provide an enjoyable rowing experience for all. Since 1996, Maritime Rowing Club has offered rowing classes for all ages and skill levels from Middle School to Learn-to-Row to Masters competitive racing.
