New Canaan High School Football Team Wins State Title Over Darien
New Canaan came back from a big halftime deficit to prevail.
Congratulations to New Canaan Head Football Coach Lou Marinelli on his 10th state title, and of course his football team on a thrilling come from behind victory over Darien for the Class L State Championship Saturday afternoon.
It was a dramatic victory for New Canaan which trailed Darien 20-7 at the half. New Canaan won when Mike Collins connected with Alex LaPolice on a touchdown pass, and Peter Swindell hit the all important extra point to seal the victory.
Collins had a huge game at quarterback completing 25-49 passes for 259 yards and three touchdown passes. LaPolice caught eight passes for 71 yards.

For Darien, Quarterback Tim Graham completed 17-30 passes for two touchdowns, and Shelby Grant had six carries for 45 yards, and Will Hamemick caught five passes for 60 yards and a touchdown.
After the contest New Canaan tweeted, “congratulations to @Darien football on a tremendous season, two great games this season between us.”
