“As a child, I was so thrilled with a trip to Colonial Williamsburg. Well, we have a mini-Williamsburg right here in New Canaan and we invite everyone to come visit.”
New Canaan, CT, September 27, 2017 – New Canaan Historical Society (www.NCHistory.org) Nancy Geary spoke to The Kiwanis Club of New Canaan at a recent Kiwanis luncheon meeting at South End.

Geary, a South Salem resident who took on her new role in April, 2017, was very impressed with the campus and buildings at the Historical Society. “I had the joy, my first day, of walking around and was amazed at what I saw.”
“The 18th century Hanford-Silliman House, the 19th century Rock School, the perfectly-preserved Cody Drugstore, the Doll and Toy Museum, the Printing Press, the Tool Museum with Shoemaker’s “cottage,” the John Rogers Studio, which is a National Historic Landmark, so many treasures, right on Oenoke Road in New Canaan. I was very excited to be able to introduce this wonderful asset to new members of the New Canaan community and surrounding towns,” she said.

“Most people don’t know we also have the 2nd largest costume collection in the state of Connecticut, the largest is in the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford,” she continued.
Geary discussed the newly refreshed interior of the Historical Society offices, in what is known as the Town House. Built in 1825, the Town House was the location of the town’s government until 1864, then served several purposes until the Historical Society moved its offices there in 1963.
“We are offering so many wonderful programs this year,” Geary said, “but some of our most important will always be our children’s programs. Experiential learning is key to children being absorbed in their experience, which makes it highly memorable for them. We welcome everyone in the community to stop by, explore our library, take a tour of our buildings, learn more about the history of this wonderful town.
I look forward to meeting you all.”
