New Canaan To Install Security Cameras At Waveny Park
Calls for the move increased following the disappearance of New Canaan resident and mother-of-five Jennifer Farber Dulos.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The town will issue a Request for Proposals to add security cameras at Waveny Park and upgrade security systems currently at other town-owned buildings, First Selectman Kevin Moynihan announced.
The Board of Selectmen on Tuesday unanimously voted in favor of issuing the RFP, which in the case of adding cameras at Waveny, had been the focus of a petition following the disappearance of New Canaan mother-of-five Jennifer Farber Dulos. Her SUV was found in the park on the day she vanished, May 24.
"Prior to today’s Selectmen meeting, town staff and I conferred with D’Agostino Associates, the security firm that installed security for the new Town Hall in 2015, regarding security of all town buildings and properties, excluding schools," Moynihan said in a statement. "Also, [Department of Public Works] Director Tiger Mann and I met with the Police Commission at its October 16th meeting to discuss the state of our security technology and opportunities to upgrade existing systems and possible needs to expand our security systems.

"As a result, the Chief of Police and the Commission jointly issued a recommendation to the Selectmen with regard to upgrading the Town’s existing security technology and specifically recommended installing cameras at the entrances to Waveny Park, which recommendation the Selectmen reviewed in executive session and acted upon today. The Selectmen met in executive session at its September 3rd meeting to begin its review regarding security in town buildings and properties."
Information from the RFP, including cost estimates for the new system, will be incorporated into the town's annual budget discussions for the 2020-21 fiscal year. Those discussions are scheduled to begin in January, which means the new security system likely will not be installed until the second half of 2020 at the earliest.
