New Canaan Man Accused Of Holding Hostages In Standoff With Cops
A member of the police department's hostage negotiation unit was called in to help end the standoff.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 20-year-old New Canaan man was arrested Friday night on multiple charges, including unlawful restraint, threatening and reckless endangerment, after a hostage situation during a domestic dispute, according to New Canaan police.
No injuries were reported in the 8:15 p.m. standoff, but a member of the police department's Hostage Negotiation team, and members of the Special Response team, had to be called in to help end it.
The incident began when officers were called to a Millport Avenue home on a report of a domestic dispute between Arlind Bajraktari and two other individuals, according to police.

"Upon arriving at the residence responding officers learned that Bajraktari had locked himself in the apartment and was holding two occupants inside the apartment refusing to release them," said New Canaan police.
The department's hostage negotiator and tactical team were able to talk Bajraktari into releasing the hostages and come out of the home after an undisclosed amount of time. Details of the negotiation was not disclosed.

Bajraktari was taken into custody and charged with the following:
- Second-degree threatening
- Risk of injury to a child
- First-degree reckless endangerment
- Violation of a protective order
- First-degree criminal trespass
- First-degree unlawful restraint
- Disorderly conduct
He was held in lieu of bail of $150,000 and is scheduled to appear in court on April 13.
