New Canaan Man Thwarted While Boosting Items From Greenwich Whole Foods: Cops

The suspect was apprehended on June 26.

GREENWICH, CT — An 80-year-old New Canaan man was arrested on a charge of sixth-degree larceny on June 26 after he allegedly tried to shoplift about $200 worth of health and beauty products from the Whole Foods Market on East Putnam Avenue in Greenwich, according to police.

Arrested was Lionel N. Sterling, of West Road, at about 3:20 p.m., said Greenwich police.

Store personnel caught Sterling after he allegedly placed the four undisclosed items in his pockets and tried to walk out without paying.

Sterling was released on a promise to appear in Stamford Superior Court on July 10.
