New Canaan Motor Vehicle Stop Results In Marijuana Arrest: Police

The suspect from Danbury also allegedly gave police a fake name.

NEW CANAAN, CT — A 20-year-old Danbury man, who was pulled over by New Canaan police Saturday morning for a lack of a front license plate on his vehicle, was subsequently arrested on narcotics charges after police found marijuana in the car.

Edwin Moots, of Main Street, was pulled over on Valley Road in New Canaan at about 9:30 a.m.

"A motor vehicle stop was conducted and upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with Moots (the operator) the officer detected the odor of marijuana emitting from within the vehicle," wrote New Canaan police in a statement. "The officer deployed his K-9 Police Service Dog and a subsequent search/investigation revealed multiple small plastic baggies containing marijuana as well as a scale and multiple empty clear plastic baggies within the vehicle."

Moots, whose license is under suspension according to police, initially gave the officer a fake name.

  • Interfering with an officer
  • Use and possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Illegal operation of a motor vehicle while under suspension
  • Criminal impersonation
  • Possession of marijuana with intent to sell

He was released after posting a $250 bond and is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Aug. 2.
