New Canaan PD Assigns Community Officer to Downtown

The officer will connect with merchants in the center of town and deter crime, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said.

NEW CANAAN, CT- The Police Department has assigned Officer Ron Bentley to the new position of community impact officer.

Bentley wil work with merchants, residents and visitors in the center of town, said Chief Leon Krolikowski. He will enforce traffic laws and deter criminal activity.

"In the recent past, we have seen out-of-state career criminals come to our Town and commit serious crimes," Krolikowski said. "Moreover, we have had serious pedestrian accidents and an increase in distracted driving within the business district."

The position was created after surveys and discussions with business leaders in town.

Bentley has served with the New Canaan Police Department for over 10 years, filling many roles – patrol officer, dispatcher, field training officer, bicycle patrol officer, honor guard officer and school resource officer. Officer Bentley was raised in New Canaan and graduated from New Canaan High School. During his career, he has received many letters of appreciation and/or recognition for the exceptional performance of his duties.
