The New Canaan Police Commission meeting turned into a seven-hour bout centered around Sgt. John Milligan and whether he should be terminated for insurance fraud after his divorce from his wife.
One estimate pegged the cost to the town at over $33,000 after Milligan divorced his wife, but kept her on his health insurance for nearly four years, according to the New Canaan Advertiser

Police Chief Leon Krolikowski and union lawyer Eric Brown had a contentious cross examination. Krolikowski learned that Milligan might be keeping his ex-wife on his insurance through his wife who heard a rumor in town. An email last year from a town resident also alerted the chief that Milligan might be having an affair, which prompted the chief to seek clarification on his marital status.
The hearing will be continued May 29.
