New Canaan Police To Hire 2 New Officers
Both candidates participated in the winter 2023 recruitment process for the New Canaan Police Department.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department will hire two new officers Friday at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall meeting room.
According to a news release provided by the department, Juan Carlos Jerez, 33, is from California and began his law enforcement career with the New York Police Department. He was most recently employed as a police officer for the San Jose Police Department in California.
He graduated from Richard R. Green High School and earned his bachelor's degree from John Jay College, where he majored in criminal justice.

Autumn Sanborn, 25, of Milford, was most recently employed as a general manager for Vive Fitness. She graduated from Point Pleasant Borough High School and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of New Haven, where she majored in national security.
Jerez and Sanborn both participated in the winter 2023 recruitment process for New Canaan police officers and were two of over 80 candidates that submitted eligible applications for employment.

According to police, they both successfully endured an intensive testing and selection process, including a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing and Police Commission interview.
As a sworn officer with an out-of-state certification, Jerez will need to take various courses designated by POSTC to attain his Connecticut certification. He will begin his comparative certification training in April, the majority of which will take place at the New Canaan Police Department through distance learning, according to police.
After completion of that training, Jerez will undergo approximately eight weeks of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being assigned solo patrol duties as a probationary police officer.
Sanborn will begin her recruit training April 5 at the Connecticut Police Academy's 378th training session in Meriden. The tentative graduation date for that class is during the week of Oct. 16.
After completion of the academy, Sanborn will undergo a minimum of 400 hours of field training with the New Canaan Police Department before being certified as a probationary police officer.
