New Canaan Police Issue Multiple Marijuana Infractions

Police were busy handing out infractions for marijuana over the past week.

Faulty registration

An officer stopped a vehicle on July 31 around 2 p.m. after a license plate check didn’t come back to the vehicle that was being driven, police said. The individual had glassy and bloodshot eyes.

The Bethel man was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after a search of the vehicle turned up drugs.

The operator was also told to go to the DMV to remedy the registration issue.

Police stopped a vehicle on South Avenue July 28 after it was found with no front license plate.

The officer smelled burnt marijuana in the vehicle and found two marijuana cigarettes. The Bridgeport woman was issued a citation for possession of marijuana and given a verbal warning for not having the license plate.

Smoky vehicle in vacant lot at night

An officer was dispatched to check out an occupied vehicle in a vacant lot off of Douglas Road July 26. around 10 p.m.

There were three occupants and appeared to be smoke within the cabin of the vehicle, police said.

The operator from Fairfield, NJ said that found marijuana and paraphernalia belonged to him. He was issued an infraction.

Broken-down vehicle

An officer on foot patrol on Elm Street noticed a vehicle parked partially in the westbound lane on July 29 around 8:40 p.m.

The vehicle wasn’t running and was occupied by two teens. They said the vehicle had broken down.

The officer smelled burnt marijuana and a subsequent search yielded marijuana and paraphernalia in the vehicle, police said.

One of the teens, who is from Westport, was issued an infraction.
