New Canaan Police Lieutenant Retires After Over 30 Years Of Service

Police Lt. Louis Gannon, one of the founding members of the department's Special Response Team, has retired after over 30 years of service.

NEW CANAAN, CT — New Canaan Police Lt. Louis Gannon has retired after more than 30 years of service with the department.

According to the New Canaan Police Department's Facebook page, Gannon was hired Sept. 27, 1991, and officially retired July 31.

Throughout his career, Gannon has filled the roles of patrol sergeant, youth officer, training officer and investigator. Most recently, he was the shift commander of the 11-7 shift, police said.

Gannon has also served as the town coordinator for the CT Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run and was responsible for implementing the department's Bicycle Patrol Unit. He was also one of the two founding members of the department's Special Response Team.

Gannon has earned The Chief’s Award of Excellence for Physical Fitness, the Commissioners' Physical Fitness Award and the Perkin's Award for Marksmanship, according to police.

"The men and women of the New Canaan Police Department wish him all the best in his retirement," police said on Facebook.
