New Canaan Police Officers Receive Promotions, Awards

NEW CANAAN, CT — On Tuesday, New Canaan police celebrated promotions for five officers and presented awards to a number of members of the department.

According to the department's Facebook page, officers and civilians who are soon to retire were also recognized for their years of service and dedication to the department.

The following promotions and awards were announced Thursday by the department:

Promotions: John DiFederico to rank of chief, Andrew Walsh to rank of deputy chief, Joseph Farenga to rank of captain, John Milligan to rank of lieutenant and Roberto Lopez to rank of sergeant.

Chief's Award of Excellence for Physical Fitness for 2022: Officer Chris Dewey

Commissioner's Award for Physical Fitness: Officer George Caponera

Marksmanship Awards: Chief DiFederico was awarded the award for the Commissioner's Shoot and Officer Shane Gibson received the Perkin’s Award

Medical Service Awards for Saving a Life: Sergeant Callinan, Officer Jarvis, Officer Somma, Officer Falbo, Officer Obando and Officer Lluveres

Meritorious Duty Award: Sergeant Sprosta, Officer Gulino, Officer Ceci, Officer Vincenzi and Officer Rienzi

Meritorious Duty award for his long standing commitment, dedication, and contributions to the NCPD Special Response Team: Sergeant Scott Romano

2022 Stephen W. Wood Officer of the Year: Officer Owen Ochs

Retirement Ceremony: Lieutenant Ogrinc, Sergeant Romano, Officer Swindon, Jean Cross and Allyson Halm.

Lieutenant Ogrinc: 35 years of service
Sergeant Romano: 26 years of service
Jean Cross (Property and Evidence Manager): 26 years of service
Officer Swindon: 44 years of service
Allyson Halm (Animal Control Officer): eight years of service

"We thank them for their years of service and dedication to the department," police said on Facebook.
