Recently, officers were sent to the report of a person having difficulty breathing.
While responding to this call, officers learned that the person had lost consciousness.
Less than two minutes after being dispatched, Sergeant Aaron LaTourette and Officer Matthew Blank arrived at the scene. These officers determined that the patient was not breathing and had no pulse. The treating officers deployed an Automatic External Defibrillator, which administered a shock. The officers continued cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and performed other lifesaving care.
The patient received advanced care from the New Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NCVAC), regained a pulse and was transported to the hospital by NCVAC.
The officers who handled this incident will soon receive our Department's Medical Lifesaving Award. Thanks to their training, professionalism, and expert care, they saved a life.
We are proud of how these officers embody our mission, which is "To Protect and Serve the community with courage, professionalism, and integrity.” Their compassion is to be celebrated.
As we work together to handle hundreds of medical calls and medical emergencies we give special thanks to Norwalk Hospital and the NCVAC for being such critical partners.
There is no greater reward than saving a life.
