New Canaan Police Promotion Policies Debated
The police union voted that it wants promotion policies changed when it comes to years outside of the department.

NEW CANAAN, CT—The police union seeks to change a part of the Police Department's general orders that allows transfer officers to seek promotion with less than four years of experience on New Canaan's force.
Currently officers can seek promotion if they have four or more years with the New Canaan Police Department or four years with an agency that provides law enforcement services, according to the New Canaan Advertiser.
Officer David Rivera, who has previous experience in Bridgeport is seeking promotion to sergeant.

The Police Commission decided it couldn't change the department's general orders on a whim and Rivera could proceed to seek promotion. The matter of potentially changing general orders would wait for another time.
