New Canaan Police To Temporarily Move To New Headquarters

The department will be temporarily relocated while its current headquarters on South Avenue undergoes a complete renovation.

NEW CANAAN, CT — The New Canaan Police Department will be temporarily located at 39 Locust Avenue beginning Dec. 4 while a complete renovation of the current South Avenue headquarters is underway.

According to a news release provided by the town, all services and operations for the general public normally conducted at police headquarters will be conducted at the temporary Locust Avenue location.

Parking for visitors will be located on Locust Avenue, as well as the street's municipal parking lot.

The South Avenue police department will be closed to the public until the completion of the renovation, which is scheduled for late 2025, according to town officials.

According to town officials, commonly used services include obtaining records, reports and permits, filing a complaint, submitting an anonymous tip, fingerprinting, animal control, disposing of medications, hiring an off-duty officer and more.

Ways of contacting New Canaan Police will not change; residents can call 203-594-3500 for non-emergencies and 911 for all emergencies.

The renovation project at the South Avenue police headquarters will modernize the 97-year-old building for today’s law enforcement, town officials said. Safety of officers, visitors and detainees will be enhanced, space utilization will be improved, full ADA accessibility will be provided and energy and operational systems will be more efficient.

The building's exterior Colonial Revival architecture and historic character will be unchanged, according to town officials.
