Sarah Mannelly almost beat the St. Joseph girls basketball team by herself.
Mannelly scored all 23 of her points in the second half, but it was quite enough as the Cadets held on to defeat New Canaan 58-56 Wednesday.
Nancy Stablein scored 16 points to pace three players in double figures for the Cadets, who improved to 3-0. Jessica Jowdy added 14 and Jenn Vasquez chipped in with 13.
Courtney Rogers added 15 for New Canaan, which dropped to 1-2.

The New Canaan boys hockey team, which lost 18 players either via graduation or transfers to Prep school, opened its season with a 3-0 loss to Notre Dame of West Haven.
Colby Cretella and Greg Zullo each had a goal and an assist and Bill Vizzo had two assists for the Green Knights. Goalie Chris Koennecke had 19 saves for New Canaan.

Corbett Ripley scored three goals as the New Canaan girls hockey team defeated Stamford 8-0 on Wednesday.
The Rams have scored eight goals in each of their first two games, opening the season with a 8-4 win over Glastonbury.
Kellianne Hickey, Jenny Crandall, Lauren Cambell, Kyla Persky and Lauren Williams also scored against Stamford, which is in its first season as a varsity program.
Nine different players had at least one assist for New Canaan, which faces Wilton on Friday. The Warriors will be playing their season opener.
