NCHS Girls Advance to Tournament Finals

Courtney Rogers scored 11 of her 16 points in the first quarter as the girls basketball team routed Greenwich 46-28 Tuesday to advance to the finals of the annual La Vista tournament.
Rogers, who made four 3-pointers, helped the Rams built a 16-4 lead after the first quarter, which they extended to 32-9 at the half.

Kelly Armstrong added 10 points for the New Canaan, which won its third straight game to improve to 5-2.
Caroline Barrett scored nine points to pace Greenwich (1-5), which dropped its fifth straight game.

New Canaan will host Darien, a 39-32 winner over Foran, in the championship game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Greenwich will take on Foran in the consolation game on Thursday at 3 p.m. at New Canaan.

The New Canaan boys suffered a 56-42 loss to Greenwich in the La Vista semifinals.
The Rams (0-4) will play in the consolation game on Thursday at Darien (3 p.m.) against Stamford Academy, which fell to the Blue Wave 65-34 in the other semifinal.
Darien will host Greenwich in the championship game on Thursday at 5 p.m., while New Canaan will take on Stamford Academy in the consolation clash at 3 p.m.
Alejandro Rodriguez scored 23 points for the Cardinals, who improved to 3-1. Greenwich opened a 12-4 lead after the first quarter and steadily increased its advantage.
The Cardinals led 27-18 at the half, then outscored the Rams 15-5 in the third quarter to take a 42-23 advantage into the final period. Rodriguez had 17 points through three quarters.
Alex McMurray added 12 points and Greg Donlic chipped in with eight for Greenwich.
Andrew Reed scored 21 points and Nicolas Depuy added 10 for New Canaan, which dropped to 0-4 under first-year coach Mike Halley.
The Rams responded with an 12-2 run to cut Greenwich's lead to 44-35 with just over five minutes remaining.

Tyler Manchuck scored in overtime Tuesday, giving the New Canaan boys hockey team a 3-2 victory over Notre Dame of Fairfield.
Jack Stanton and Peter Reinhart also scored for the Rams, who won their second straight to improve to 2-2.
Christian La Croix and Frank Zumbo had the goals for Notre Dame, which dropped to 1-3.
Mike Samulenas made 29 saves for the Lancers and Chris Koennecke stopped 22 shots for the Rams.
